Some rise and some fall back in 1982
Hope everyone is having a great week. We’re going back further than normal today, to a time before I even watched football myself. The year is 1982 and the World Cup in Spain is in the rear view mirror and the new season is a few weeks old.
This year holds special memories for me because of some of my favourite films came out in 1982. I also often listened to the Top 40 on a Sunday, and between you and me, used to record the music on to a cassette. I still have a tape full of songs from this period. Think “Come on Eileen” and “Fame” and you’re on the right track.
So today I’m off to Wednesday 29th September 1982 in particular because it was a night full of European football. All over the continent second legs were being played in the three competitions. It’s fair to say that there was a mixed bag of results for British clubs.
So first of all, let’s head to Malta.
